Expanded Egg Recall |
Wright County Eggs/Lund Eggs notified us this afternoon that an additional plant was being placed on restricted status and all eggs produced since May 17th are to be recalled. Our affected divisions, which are all located west of the Mississippi River, are contacting customers. Only eggs from Plant # 1942 are included in this expanded recall. (View PDF to read more) |

This weekend the Food & Drug Administration was able to trace back a positive sample of a bag of Romaine lettuce for Ecoli O145 to the fields where the product was grown. Basic Food Flavors Inc., a supplier of Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP), announced a Class I Recall recently due to the possibility of contamination by Salmonella. Nestle, maker of Minor’s products, placed a number of items “on hold” at our distribution centers until they could determine the relative risk associated with consumption of their products. That “hold” has now been released, and Nestle is stating that the products are safe if they are thoroughly heated. (View PDF to read more) |

Basic Food Flavors Inc., a supplier of Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (HVP), announced a Class I Recall due to the possibility of contamination by Salmonella. This supplier provides HVP to numerous food manufacturers for use in dips, gravies, seasoning mixes, soup bases, and many other products. Those suppliers have begun issuing their own recalls. Others suppliers are evaluating their source of HVP to determine if they are affected and have place a “hold” on their products until they work with the FDA to determine if their products are safe. This supplier, Basic Food Flavors Inc., provides HVP to numerous food manufacturers for use in dips, gravies, seasoning mixes, and soup bases. On February 15th, U.S. Foodservice released a Fast Facts indicating that Huntington Meat Packing Inc. of Montebello CA was expanding a recall of 864,000 pounds of ground beef products to include an additional 4.9 million pounds of those items. On January 18th, Huntington Meat Packing Inc. of Montebello CA recalled 864,000 lbs of beef because it may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. This weekend the recall was expanded to over 5 million lbs of meat. No illnesses have been associated with the Recall, which now includes other products containing this beef. Today we received word that both Los Cabos and Fernando’s, makers of Mexican Food Products, announced that they are involved in the expanded Recall. BPA is a chemical used to create polycarbonate, a lightweight plastic often found in plastic bottles. It is also used to create epoxy resins which line cans containing food or beverage to prevent spoilage or contamination from the metal. Sara Lee Corporation has uncovered that some chocolate meringue pies under the brand“Chef Pierre” were packed in boxes marked “lemon meringue”. Because the chocolate pies contain
milk, an allergen, the pies are considered misbranded and they issued a recall. The recall was originally
issued several days ago, but after a review of all production codes the recall has now been expanded to
